I Knew Dogs Were Loyal, But This Blew Me Away

The loyalty of these dogs is almost beyond belief. Yet, it's not uncommon. All dogs who are loved by their owners return this love and are deeply loyal.

The stories of these ridiculously loyal dogs will give you a new found respect for the entire species. Some of these are simply incredible.

Constantine, AKA Faithful Kostya

In the mid-1990s in Togliatti, Russia – a family died in a car crash during the summer of 1995, leaving their dog as the only survivor. The German Shepherd, named Constantine (or Kostya) by the locals, kept coming to the same spot for the next 7 years, braving freezing winters and hot summers.

Old Shep

A Border Collie, who – after seeing the coffin of his master loaded onto a train in Fort Benton, Montana in 1936 – maintained a watchful vigil at the station for six years.

Hachiko

An Akita who became a symbol of loyalty in Japan, is now honored by a statue in Tokyo. Hachikō is famous for his loyalty to his long dead master, by returning to the train station and waiting for his return, every day for the next nine years during the time the train was scheduled to arrive.

Fido

A mixed-breed dog, whose master, Carlo Soriani, had died in an air raid over Borgo San Lorenzo (near Florence, Italy) in 1943, during World War II. Fido waited in vain, for the following 14 years, for Soriani's return, going daily to the bus stop where the man used to get off after coming home from work.

Greyfriars Bobby

A Skye Terrier in Edinburgh, Scotland, was loyal to his master long after his master's death in 1858. Until Bobby's death 14 years later, he spent every night at his master's grave. A statue in memorial of Greyfriars Bobby was erected near the graveyard.

'New species' of ancient human found

A new species of ancient human has been unearthed in the Afar region of Ethiopia, scientists report.

Researchers discovered jaw bones and teeth, which date to between 3.3m and 3.5m years old. It means this new hominin was alive at the same time as several other early human species, suggesting our family tree is more complicated than was thought.

The study is published in the journal Nature.

The new species has been called Australopithecus deyiremeda, which means "close relative" in the language spoken by the Afar people.

Baby Spiders Are Falling From The Sky By The Thousands In Australia

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, "millions of baby spiders" have been spotted "raining from the sky" in Australia.

A resident of Goulburn, Australia woke one morning to discover his home and field were covered in a ghostly sheet of cobwebs, with what appeared to be scores baby arachnids falling from the sky.
